Boulder Canyon Hike and Canyon Lake Paddle - 3/7/2026
On Sunday I met up with a group from the Arizona Backpackers Club to hike Boulder Canyon out in the Superstitions. I had never hiked that trail before, and was excited to try something different, and meet new people. We met at the Canyon Lake Marina, and started the hike at 8:30. The weather started off in the lower 60's and, and by the end of the hike it was in the lower 70s, with clear skies. The first 5 miles were relatively easy, we only had one hiker drop out, and turn around. The hike out was a but more strenous, with the heat, and it being a lot of uphill.
Afterwards, around 3pm, Kyra and I went to the lake and paddled around for a couple of hours. I brought my paddleboard, and she rented a kayak. It was my first time paddling at Canyon Lake, and I would highly recommend it. It's a fantastic lake for paddling this time of year. I was told however that in the summer months it gets very busy out there, so you'll want to get there very early to avoid the crowds.
