Chris' Adventures

CDT - Day 0

Preface: From here on out I'm writing all of this from my phone, I didn't want to take a laptop or tablet with me. So the writing might not be great, I'll fix it all when I get back to civilization in 6 months.

Today, April 10th, I took a Greyhound bus from Phoenix to Lordsburg, it was about a four and half hour ride. The bus left at 7:50am and arrived in Lordsburg by 1:49pm. I had never taken a Greyhound anywhere before, so this was an adventure. A friend of mine had warned that there would be a smell, and they were correct. It wasn't necessarily bad, but just a collection of smells that I would rather not have smelled. Other than that the ride was, I had nobody next to me, and it was comfortable. We stopped in Tucson for a 10 minute break, and then didn't stop again until Lordsburg. When I checked in at the hotel they informed me that the hotel had no running water. I checked in anyways hoping the water would be repaired by tonight. Worse case scenario I could go next door to the other hotel. First order of business was lunch, I found a great taco truck and got a generously sized burrito and Mexican Sprite for $11. I just also learned that my money clip has a built-in bottle opener, that's pretty neat. After lunch I walked around town for a bit and found the CDTC Shuttle, then headed back to the hotel to find out the status of the water. They told me it should be repaired in an hour, which was a relief. After hanging out in the room for a while I headed out to get four water bottles to fill my pack, and a fuel canister. Stopped for pizza at Mama Rosa's Pizza and met another CDT hiker (trail name Rock n Roll) that had just made it into town from Crazy Cook. Went to bed early so that I could take the CDTC shuttle to Crazy Cook Monument in the morning.
