Chris' Adventures

CDT - Day 1

Woke up at 4:30, had oatmeal and coffee in the hotel room, showered, and then walked to the CDTC shuttle. I was the only passenger today, which the driver said was very unusual. We stopped in Hachita for last minute supplies, I grabbed an orange juice. At the southern terminus the driver took a few pictures of me and bid me farewell. It felt odd to drive two hours south just to have to spend the next 4 or 5 days to walk back to Lordsburg. The border wall was actively being constructed, and I could hear the machinery off in the diatance. Nobody stopped me to ask for my NM NDA military pass, which was kind of a shame.

I hiked 17.8 miles, starting at 8:16am, and setup camp at 4:45pm. It was beautiful day, mostly cloudy, upper 80s. I didn't need to use the sun umbrella, and the sun only poked out during the last couple of miles. After dinner I crawled into my tent and dozed off, I heard it start raining, but it wasn't much.
