CDT - Day 106 - Spoons and Water Crossings
Last night, I anticipated a cold night and morning, so I used my sleeping bag liner inside my quilt and wore my thermals, socks, and fleece. I slept incredibly well and didn't want to crawl out of my tent this morning. But, as with almost every day on the trail, there were big miles to cover. Our goal was to hike at least 23 miles.
Most of today's hike was fairly easy, with just a couple of water crossings along the way. One of them was knee-deep with a swift current, so we had to be careful not to lose our footing and get swept downstream.
We met at least eight southbound CDT hikers throughout the day. One of them had lost her spoon, and I just happened to have an extra plastic one. She was both surprised and very happy when I offered it to her. Sometimes the smallest things are incredibly valuable out here.
The final several miles of the day were a grueling 2,000-foot climb. Once we finally reached the top, we found a campsite near an almost completely dried-up lake and called it a day.
We managed to hit our goal of 23 miles by 5:30 p.m., and we were exhausted.
