CDT - Day 107 - Entering Yellowstone
After about eight miles of hiking today, we reached the border of Yellowstone! Greg has been especially excited to enter the park since he's never been here before. Pudding and I let him cross the border first. We took a few photos in front of the sign and then continued hiking into the park.
It's an interesting experience hiking through a national park. The trails are well marked and well maintained, which makes for some nice, easy navigation. We were hoping to see some wildlife, but throughout the entire day, we saw nothing but the occasional hiker.
There were also a surprising number of annoying water crossings that required us to get our feet wet. Naturally, one of them was right before camp, so we arrived with completely soaked shoes and socks.
After about 23 miles, we reached our designated campsite at Surprise Creek (8J3). There are several comments on FarOut mentioning two different 8J3 campsites, with one of them apparently being pretty terrible. We followed the signs and the directions from FarOut and ended up at what I assume is the newer site. It was perfectly fine, with plenty of good, flat spots for our tents.
Shortly after we finished setting up camp, a storm rolled in with wind, rain, and thunder. Perfect timing.
