CDT - Day 110 - Leaving Yellowstone and Wyoming

Today was another big milestone. Our planned hike would take us out of both Wyoming and Yellowstone. We spent our final night in the park at Summit Lake with about a dozen southbound CDT hikers. It felt strange camping with so many people, and I was looking forward to getting back to the freedom of camping at random, non-permitted sites along the CDT.

The hiking today was exceptionally easy, mostly downhill and along forest roads once we left Yellowstone. After about six miles, we reached the Idaho border just as a couple of southbound hikers were crossing from the other direction. We stopped and chatted for a bit before heading our separate ways.

Apparently, the rain from Wyoming decided to follow us into Idaho. It rained and hailed off and on throughout the day, but thankfully, the sun finally came out as we approached camp.

We took the Mack's Inn Alternate and finished the day by setting up camp about three miles from Island Park. Tomorrow, we'll be heading into town.
