CDT - Day 113 - Easy Day

I woke up this morning to the sound of rain and thunder. I decided to sleep in a little and wait for the storm to pass, and eventually it did. I was worried we'd start the day hiking in the rain, but when I finally emerged from my tent, the clouds had parted.

The first five miles were beautiful, with the sun peeking through the clouds and a cool breeze. Our goal was to reach the Aldous Lake Trailhead, where there was a privy, bear boxes, and flowing water. One of the bear boxes even had some trail magic inside: water, sparkling drinks, and a Twisted Tea. We hung out at the trailhead for a while since we weren't in any hurry.

For the next couple of days, we'll be hiking fewer miles than usual because we want to arrive in Lima early Thursday morning. Technically, we could get there sooner, but we'd rather not roll into town late in the evening. There's no reason to rush.

We only hiked 14 miles today and reached a beautiful campsite near a lake around 3:00 p.m. With so much extra time, I relaxed at camp, listened to a few more chapters of Consciousness and the Brain by Stanislas Dehaene, and enjoyed some music.

Tomorrow's plan is to hike until we reach the edge of the national forest, about three miles from town, and camp on the forest side. Then, Thursday morning, we'll get a ride into Lima and spend the day taking care of town chores.
