CDT - Day 12
Day 12, I woke up around 5am, not nearly as cold as the previous night. Today's goal was to hike as far as possible up the Gila River towards Doc Campbell's . There were a lot of river crossings and I wasn't sure how that would affect my timing. Most of the hike was on relatively flat trails which allowed me to hike quickly. I saw a white tail deer, wild turkeys, and lots of birds.
I made it to Doc Campbell's after hiking about 17 miles. Unfortunately Doc Campbell's is closed on Wednesdays, but it wasn't a big deal, I was planning to camp here anyways. So far I've had pretty bad luck showing up to towns when shops are closed. Luckily Becky's Gila Hotsprings Ranch was open and had great amenities for camping, including running water and showers. I met a couple of hikers on the trail and they got the last available room. I met another CDT hiker named Cupcake while setting up my tent. He was very friendly and helped with my rent as the wind was crazy. His parents showed up to provide some supplies, and they gave me oranges and apples. I ate three oranges after eating my dinner. The hikers box contained hot chocolate and I made that as well, I had been craving hot chocolate for days.
I finished the day with a nice hot shower.
