CDT - Day 120 - Elk Mountain
I love waking up next to lakes, especially in the middle of nowhere. Morrison Lake is a fantastic spot for backpacking or even car camping, and we pretty much had the entire place to ourselves.
Today's hiking was mostly uneventful, with the only real challenge being the lack of water toward the end of the day. I carried four liters from a spring before climbing Elk Mountain, knowing that the water sources ahead were unreliable.
The CDT doesn't actually go over the summit of Elk Mountain, but from the junction it was literally only a two-minute climb to the top. At that point, there was no reason not to take the little side quest.
As expected, the spring at Deadman Pass, only about four miles from Bannock Pass, was completely dry. Thankfully, carrying the extra water earlier in the day paid off.
At Pudding's recommendation, I've also started listening to A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles.
