CDT - Day 127 - September!
Holy cow, it's the first day of September! I started this journey back on April 11th with the intention of finishing sometime in September. By my calculations and current pace, I should be standing at the Canadian border by the end of the month.
It's amazing how much the scenery can change in a single day of hiking, even on a relatively short 16-mile day like today.
This morning, we woke up at our campsite near the raging North Sheep Fork Creek. We started the day with a sketchy water crossing, carefully walking across a log to get to the other side. The first few miles took us through lush, dewy forest alongside creeks. After several miles, the forest began to open up, and eventually we entered a burn scar.
For the rest of the day, we hiked mostly through burned forest until reaching camp. Thankfully, our campsite itself was surrounded mostly by live trees, with only a few burned trees scattered nearby and nothing that looked particularly concerning.
Tomorrow will be a short six-mile hike to Lost Trail Pass, where we'll hitch into Darby. After more than 120 miles of hiking this section, Greg and I are both very ready for a town day.
And just like that, I've entered the final month of the CDT.
