CDT - Day 136 - Good Weather and Easy Miles
Today was one of those hiking days where nothing particularly exciting happened. We woke up to dry tents and, thankfully, above-freezing temperatures.
Pudding got up a little earlier than Greg and me so he could hike ahead and make a phone call. Greg and I left camp around 7:00 a.m. and eventually caught up with Pudding, who was sitting alongside the trail talking to his family.
Yesterday, I noticed that the top of my left foot was a little sore, possibly from my shoe. Today, the pain increased to the point of being almost unbearable. I tried adjusting my laces and repositioning the tongue of my shoe, but nothing seemed to help. Eventually, I took some pain medication and just pushed through it. I might need to buy a new pair of shoes in the next town.
Our goal for the day was 25 miles to a campsite near a pond. We made it around 7:00 p.m., just in time to see a large moose drinking from the water. The second he heard us approaching, he took off.
Tomorrow will be an easy 12.5-mile hike to MacDonald Pass, where we'll hitch into Helena, the capital of Montana.
After 25 miles on a painful foot, 12.5 miles sounds pretty wonderful.
