CDT - Day 139 - Alpacas

After waking up to the sounds of creaking trees and train horns, we packed up our tents and hit the trail. The forecast had called for terrible weather, but instead, we ended up with an exceptionally beautiful day.

We continued hiking along the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, an unofficial but very popular CDT alternate, which led us straight to the alpaca farm.

The property was originally a llama farm, but these days it's all about alpacas. It's also an incredibly hiker- and biker-friendly hostel, with multiple cabins, food, drinks, showers, and privies. Each cabin is unique and has beds, running water, food, and a place to cook. It's a fantastic setup, and we were very tempted to just call it a day and spend the night.

When we arrived, the owner made us some delicious sandwiches. We spent some time exploring the property, checking out the cabins, and, of course, visiting the alpacas.

Eventually, we managed to escape the gravitational pull of the alpaca farm and continued north along the GDMBR toward the Red Line, where we found a spot to set up camp for the night.

Another wonderfully unexpected stop on the CDT.
