CDT - Day 142 - Leaving Lincoln
Lincoln, Montana, was fun, but the trail was calling me once again. After a quick breakfast at Lambkins, we hit the road to hitch back to Rogers Pass. There was plenty of traffic, but somehow it still took us about 45 minutes to get a ride.
There are some town mornings when it's incredibly tempting to just crawl back into bed and stay for a few more days. There will be plenty of time for that when I'm finished with this adventure.
Today's hike was physically and emotionally draining. I knew there would be a lot of climbing, so I purposely didn't look at the numbers beforehand. We ended up hiking 18.94 miles with 6,184 feet of elevation gain. It was basically one nonstop climb after another all day long.
I shouldn't complain too much, though, because the views were spectacular. Much of the day was spent walking ridges with incredible scenery in every direction. The morning started out freezing cold and covered in heavy fog, but by the afternoon the skies had cleared, it was warm, and I could see for miles.
The campsite I picked out for tonight is next to a mostly dried-up lake with a nearby water source. After what happened at Page Lake, I made sure to double-check the weather forecast before setting up my tent.
No rain tonight.
I'd really prefer not to wake up in another lake.
