CDT - Day 154 - Piegan Pass

Today was supposed to be a chill, easy day hiking over a couple of passes.

The first was Piegan Pass, and it was staggeringly beautiful. I actually found it difficult not to get choked up on the way up. The views of the mountains and glaciers were some of the best I've seen on the entire CDT. I'd easily rank Piegan Pass among my top two or three views of the entire trail.

The other side of the pass was equally beautiful, but it was covered in ice and blasted by intense winds. Once again, I found myself really missing my microspikes. I slipped on the ice a couple of times but thankfully didn't get hurt.

I'd still 100 percent do it again.

The second pass was physically much easier, but along the way we started running into hikers who told us about trail closures ahead. We hadn't received anything official, but several hikers told us the North Highline Trail was closed because of a recent bear incident. Another hiker told us she had deployed her bear spray near Granite Park Campground, which happens to be our designated campsite.

So tomorrow might get interesting.

We'll have to look at the available information and figure out the best route forward. With only two days left until Canada, I certainly wasn't expecting another potential adventure this close to the end.
