Chris' Adventures

CDT - Day 3

Insane wind all night long, woke up at 5am to more wind, and still darkness. I had to boil the water from under my vestibule.

Hit the trail at 6:49am with less than a 1/4 liter of water left. First water well was only about a mile away. I successfully filled up 2L, and headed to the water cache next to get another 2L.

Cool, cloudy and windy day so far. Trail magic, two one gallon jugs of water at 7.44 for the day.

First break at 8.62 miles, totally walked past the water cache. Looks like plenty of water the next few miles, and another cache about 12 miles up.

First campsite found at 13.29 miles, they appeared to be car camping, and I didn't see any occupants. At 15.11 miles the wind started becoming annoying and bad. Took a break under a tree, fell asleep for a little bit. The temperature was dropping and there were dark clouds. I need to make it 5 more miles. Two loud booms at 15.77, that was unsettling. Rain drops at mile 18.75. Caught up to a CDT hiker named Slowburn at mile 20.8. Apparently his group of 11 started a day before, and said I'd likely catch up to his friends on day 4.

Grabbed a couple liters from water cache 3, hiked about a mile, and then setup camp next to a large bush. Hopefully the bush will keep most of the wind off of my tent tonight.

Finished dinner around 6:30pm, and I laid down immediately.
