CDT - Day 31 - More Rocks and Cuba
Woke up feeling refreshed and ready to hike to Cuba NM. The hike to the highway was only 16 miles, and then 4 miles of highway walking to get into town.
It was another day of steep climbs up the rock formations, and then a steady decline all the way to the highway. The rock formations were incredible and interesting, and the walk along the top of the cliffs had amazing views. The climb up was so steep and perilous that I was having flashbacks to when I broke my wrist on the Picket Post hike in Arizona, I was extra careful today.
After leaving the wilderness I ended up on highway 197 and walked four miles along the most boring road, with cars flying past me. I only had one thing on my mind, and that was reaching town and having a hamburger. My first stop in town was Cuban Cafe, where I had a hamburger and fries. They were sold out of ice cream, and I really wanted a malt shake. Afterwards I went across the street and got a room at Cuba Lodge for only $65, the lodge made the motel at Grand Canyon Caverns Inn look like a five star hotel. It's only one night, I'll survive. All I needed was food, laundry, resupply and a nice shower.
