CDT - Day 38 - Colorado!
Last night was the final night sleeping in the New Mexico wilderness. We woke up to another freezing cold morning at 10k feet just 6.8 miles from the border.
After 6.8 miles of hiking through mud, snow and endless downed trees I made it to the CO border. I was greeted by PuffPuff, Guardian, and two of Puff's friends, Cal and Pyro. They brought us some trail magic and hiked with us another three miles down to Cal's car, and then drove us into town.
Our first stop in town was Santy's for burritos, churros, fresca and flan. We them drove to Tumble On Outfitters, which is a shipping container filled with hiker gear and supplies. After we stocked up on supplies Cal drove me to Chama Trails Motel. They offered to let me stay at their place, but I really wanted my own room, and my own bathroom. I'll be hanging out with them again tomorrow.
I've finally made it to Colorado after 38 days on the CDT. The last few days I've put a lot of miles in, thanks largely to my trail friends PuffPuff and Guardian, who I kept up with every day. After hiking north to Cumbres Pass one of Puff's friends drove us to Chama for resupply, laundry, food and much needed rest.
