CDT - Day 46 - Wolf Creek Pass to Creede Cutoff
It felt great to be back on the trail again. For the last six days, I've been on a mini vacation with Kimberly. She flew into Durango last week and met me in Pagosa Springs. From there, we drove to Buena Vista, where we spent the week. Yesterday, we drove back to Pagosa Springs, and I spent the night at the River Walk Inn.
I woke up at 6:00 a.m. today and went across the street to Junction for a nice breakfast. Afterward, I went back to the hotel, cleaned up, packed my gear, and hit the road. I walked across the street and stuck out my thumb. After about 15 minutes, a nice guy in a van picked me up and drove me to Wolf Creek Pass. We chatted for a while about the hike. He was also an outdoor enthusiast.
I hit the trail at 9:00 a.m. and hiked until 6:00 p.m. The hiking today was fantastic, with perfect weather, easy access to water, and great trail conditions. I ran into Metric Ton (I met him back in Chama), who was resting on the side of the trail. We talked for a while, and then I continued on.
A little later, I ran into Blue Hiker (he was dressed in blue and his pack was blue 😂), who was hiking southbound. He told me he had seen a bear and a moose earlier in the day.
I hiked about 15 miles with 3,898 feet of elevation gain today—a nice, easy day after being off the trail for almost a week. Though, to be fair, I did hike almost 30 miles during my vacation. 😅
