CDT - Day 59 - Twin Lakes
I woke up this morning at the Willis Gulch Trailhead to the sound of rain. All night long the wind was blowing like crazy, I was very happy to be surrounded by live trees. There was another camp nearby, but she left in morning before I had a chance to say hello.
After the strenuous hike yesterday I was looking forward to an easy 11 miles to Twin Lakes. It rained off and on for the entire loop around the lakes and into town. I can't really complain, the rain was light and cool, and it seemed to have cleared the wildfire smoke. The last mile into town was a highway walk, downhill with a nice wide shoulder.
The first order of business in town was to get a hamburger. Punky's Burgers wasn't open yet so I went inside Twin Lakes Inn & Saloon and was greeted by a few a hikers I had met over the last few days, including IQ. I ordered food and sat with Tom from Belgium. Tom and I had met several times and it was nice to join him for burgers and coffee. We both had the same plan of spending the night in Twin Lakes. He recommended that I find a room quickly because everything was sold out from the influx of hikers and tourists. Luckily I was able to get a room at Twin Lakes Inn.
I spent the rest of the day just hanging, eating lots of food and then stopping at the general store for my resupply. Only needed to get 3 and a half days of food. My next section is only 70 miles and I should be in Frisco in 4 days.
