CDT - Day 89 - Trail Magic Overload
I woke up to the sound of cows wandering through our campsite. During the night, MacGyver and Sprinter hiked in and arrived around 5:00 a.m. looking for water.
A few hours into the hike, we stumbled upon some incredible trail magic. A guy named TwoMile had set up a breakfast spread with eggs and pancakes, along with sodas, juice, coffee, cookies, and fresh fruit. MacGyver, Sprinter, and SideQuest were already there, and a few minutes later Pudding, Beacon, and Larry arrived. It was the largest group of CDT hikers I'd seen together so far, and it was a great way to spend the morning.
A few hours later, we reached a reservoir where we planned to refill our water and maybe even go for a swim. As we approached, I noticed a car parked beside the trail. At first, I assumed someone was just visiting the reservoir, but then a woman started waving us over. As we walked up, she smiled and asked, "Do you guys want bacon-wrapped hot dogs?" Of course, we couldn't turn down more trail magic. She told us she had hiked the CDT the year before and wanted to give back to the trail community. We spent some time eating hot dogs and swapping stories about our adventures.
I never did end up cooking dinner that night, which was a nice bonus. Unfortunately, all that trail magic meant my food bag was somehow getting heavier instead of lighter.
