Chris' Adventures

Mica Moon Zipline and Aerial Park

This weekend, Kimberly flew out to Lewiston for a few quick adventures and to spend some time with my mom.

Just a couple of hours after her flight landed, we were already on the trail for a hike at Hells Gate State Park. We completed a 6.6-mile loop with about 800 feet of elevation gain, winding through dry grasslands before making our way along the Snake River. The area is known for rattlesnakes during the warmer months, and sure enough, we spotted one slithering into the grass with its tail rattling!

After the hike, we stopped at my mom's house for a couple of ice-cold drinks before heading out to the Lewiston Wildlife Habitat Area. I was hoping we'd see some interesting wildlife, but instead we found an overgrown area with thousands of gnats flying into our faces. We also arrived a little too late to visit the visitor center. Not quite the wildlife experience I had in mind!

On Saturday, we drove up to Spokane for the Mica Moon Zipline Tour and Aerial Park. The aerial park was a lot of fun, but much more challenging than either of us had anticipated. It required a surprising amount of upper-body strength, balance, and coordination. By the time we finished climbing and navigating the obstacles, we were both exhausted and more than ready for the zipline portion of the adventure.

And the ziplines did not disappoint!

These were easily the longest and fastest ziplines either of us had ever experienced. The longest, appropriately named Big Momma, stretches an incredible 3,500 feet! Riders typically reach speeds exceeding 60 mph, and with a strong tailwind, speeds can reach up to 74 mph. Flying through the trees at those speeds was an absolute blast.

We finished the day with a delicious dinner at Mexico Lindo before heading back to my mom's house for some homemade South African milk tart. A pretty perfect way to end an adventurous day!

For our final Lewiston adventure on Sunday, we decided to squeeze in one more hike before catching our flight. We walked 10 miles along the Snake River, enjoying absolutely perfect weather. Unlike our earlier wildlife excursion, there were hardly any gnats bothering us!

It was a fantastic weekend packed with hiking, climbing, ziplining, good food, and time with family. We certainly managed to squeeze a lot of adventure into just a couple of days!
