Third Broken Rim in Two Years - 7/21/2025
I had planned on driving to Flagstaff on Saturday to hike Humphreys Peak again, and I was really looking forward to escaping to the mountains again after a bit of a rough week. This would have been my first hike in Arizona after spending ten days in Colorado hiking fourteeners. Nevertheless the horrible roads here in Phoenix had other plans. I drove over some debris on the road, probably a rock or piece of concrete, which destroyed two of my wheels.
The front right rim was broken pretty badly, and somehow the tire still had air.
The right rear rim was punctured all the way through.
I'm really glad the tow truck arrived quickly. The guy showed within 20 minutes of me contacting State Farm. Much better than the three hours it took the last time this happened. I had it towed to my house, and it's now sitting in my garage.
I ordered new rims which should arrive this Wednesday. For now I'll be driving this Audi A3 rental.
Update
The new rims look fantastic! I'm now much more hyper aware of any debris I see on the roads.
