White Tank Regional Park
Mesquite Canyon, Ford Canyon, and Willow Canyon Loop
I had originally planned to hike Humphreys Peak on Sunday, but those plans fell apart after I was woken up by work at 1 a.m. My friend Kimberly's plans had fallen through as well, so we decided to make the most of the day and go for a local hike instead.
Kimberly invited me to join her for a hike in the White Tank Mountains, an area I had never explored before.
We got a bit of a late start, but the weather was absolutely perfect. It's been unseasonably cool for October in the desert, which has made hiking much more enjoyable. I swapped out my winter hiking pack for my hot-weather desert pack and met Kimberly at the trailhead around 9:45 a.m.
The hike was approximately 8.6 miles with 1,500 feet of elevation gain. We knocked it out pretty quickly, enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery along the way.
Afterward, we treated ourselves to some refreshing smoothie bowls at Nékter Juice Bar. A pretty great way to wrap up an unexpectedly fun morning!
Sometimes the unplanned adventures turn out to be just as enjoyable as the ones you've been looking forward to.
